Environmental Health is responsible for the protection of air, water and all other factors that may adversely affect the high quality lifestyle we enjoy in Summit County. In addition, the Environmental Division monitors and protects all water sources that flow through Summit County to neighboring counties for drinking water, irrigation and many other daily needs.

Being one of the fastest growing communities in the state of Utah, Summit County Health Department finds our staff developing new programs in an effort to maintain the standards previously set.

Programs
Environmental Health protects public health through the following programs:

Food Safety Program

The food safety program works to ensure safe food service practices. We offer public education, issue food handler cards and inspect and permit food service establishments.

Septic Program

Our on-site program makes sure that septic systems work properly. We do this through the permitting process, homeowner education and responding to complaints.

Drinking Water Program

Our water quality program monitors the quality of drinking water in Summit County in conjunction with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality. The lab tests water samples from individuals and public water systems for bacteria in drinking water.

Solid & Hazardous Waste Program

The solid waste program permits solid waste facilities such as landfills. We respond to complaints and enforce solid waste regulations.

The hazardous waste program works to ensure safe disposal of hazardous waste. We investigate hazardous materials complaints and over-see clean ups on spills.

Indoor Air Quality

We inspect asbestos removal projects, and investigate complaints of mold and any other unusual odors.

Outdoor Air Quality

The program watches pollution levels in the county and investigates emission complaints.

Indoor Clean Air Act

We respond to smoking complaints in restaurants and bars.

Used Oil Recycling Program

Summit County provides recycling locations for residents to drop off used automobile oil, at no charge. This oil is then recycled.

Swimming Pool & Spa Monitoring

All public pools and spas in Summit County are sampled and tested by the Environmental Division.
